Lap Pool Retreat

A lap pool has to earn its length twice: once for the swimmer, and once for everybody who never swims a length in it.

The design

The long axis is kept clean and uninterrupted for swimming, with the spa integrated into the run rather than bolted onto the side of it, and a tanning ledge at the shallow end for the hours either side of a swim. The infinity edge takes the far wall out of the picture altogether, so from the deck the water reads straight into the landscape behind it.

How we build it

A vanishing edge is the least forgiving thing in pool construction: the weir has to be dead level across its whole length or the sheet breaks up, and the catch basin and pump have to be sized to the wall rather than to the pool. It is engineered in-house, on the same set of drawings as the shell, and third-party stamped before it goes to permit.

What you are left with

A pool that is genuinely swimmable at speed, and a horizon line that holds. The shell carries a lifetime structural warranty.
